A musical history of Cape Verde
The history of Cape Verde cannot be imagined without the music of this West African archipelago. Over the centuries, the former Portuguese colony served as a hub of the transatlantic slave trade, faced famines and fought for independence and democracy. The music processed and influenced this eventful history.

The Atlantic Italies research group has moved to the Department of History of the University of Zurich, where Roberto Zaugg has been offered a professorship in early modern history. We are looking forward to continue our work at this outstanding institution and to cooperate with our new colleagues.

On 1 August 2019, our research group will move to the History Department of the University of Zurich.
We wish to thank the University of Bern and our colleagues for these months of intense and fruitful work: your support in preparing and launching our project has been of invaluable importance! In particular, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to Prof Christian Windler, who has welcomed our research group at the Section of Modern History and who, on various occasions, has offered us his time and his advice. Our Bern period was rather short, but it will constitute the basis for future cooperation opportunities.
